Flying Chicken 會飛的雞

Ever thought about seeing what is hard to see, like flying chicken. Why do things happen when you expect them? Strolling around the serene Monet’s Garden in Kitagawa Village, Kochi Japan, every visitor is expecting to see beautiful water lilies, flowers, ponds, trees and nice landscape. The Monet’s Garden in Kitagawa Village was the only other place on earth to obtain a permission to replicate the Monet’s Garden in Giverny, France. The one in Kitagawa Village consists of three gardens: Flower Garden, Water Garden and Light Garden and it is a vast natural environment. It was pleasant to see the unusual flying chicken, and it’s not even in a farm! What a nice surprise. That’s one of the great things about travelling. Seeing is believing.

Happy St. Valentine’s Day! It’s one of the biggest events that most people celebrate and express their love to the loved ones. In Hong Kong, flowers are the most popular gifts for men to buy for the women. Only in Japan, women give chocolate for men. In return, they get some chocolate (usually white) a month later. It’s called the white day on March 14.

The Lake that Changes Color

Lake Onneto by Kate Wu

“Onneto” means old lake or old pond. The lake, situated 623m above sea level, is part of Akan National Park and is one of the three great secret lakes in Hokkaido. The lake was formed when the river was dammed up due to the volcanic eruption of Mt. Meakan, the tallest active volcano in Akan Volcanic Complex. Lake Onneto is at the foot of Mt. Meakan. The minerals of the lake causes the change of color from emerald green to deep blue, forming a beautiful gem surrounded by a dense natural forest.

A Lake in the Sky

Lake Shikaribetsu, located at 800 meters above sea level, is at the highest altitude of all lakes in Hokkaido, and is the only natural lake in Daisetsuzan National Park. The lake was formed by damming of a river during a volcanic eruption 30,000 years ago. It is surrounded by primeval forest where various wild birds and animals live.  From the observation desk, you may walk down to the lake to hire a boat to paddle on the lake in the summer. There is a wooden staircase at the observation desk to walk down to the lake. You may rent a boat to paddle or dip your feet in the free hotspring on the lakeside.

Mysterious Lake in Hokkaido

Lake Mashu in Akan National Park, Hokkaido, Japan

Lake Mashu is a caldera lake in Akan National Park.  It is considered the most beautiful lake in Japan and renown for its clear blue water. It’s name “mashu” means mysterious because it is frequently blanketed in heavy fog. Visitors are not allowed to go down to the lake. However, there are two observation decks positioned around the rim of the caldera where you can view the lake. There are facilities at the observation deck where you can take a rest, get some food and drink and go to the restroom.
