Visiting Seoul in late May to early June is the best time to see roses, a kind of spring flowers. The Rose Gardens in Olympic Park and Seoul Grand Park hold Rose Festivals around the same time due to the same temperature. The Olympic Park is free and there is an admission fee of KRW 2,000 for the Rose Festival in Seoul Grand Park. Well, the later is much bigger in scale.
Planning ahead is a bit challenging. Only the estimated/planned event dates are available on Tourism Office’s website. So you will have to check with Tourist Information desk when you arrive at Seoul. I hope that more information are available online so that we can plan ahead. That’s probably the reason why I didn’t see any foreign tourists.
Luckily, I arrived the day after the Rose Festival began and picked a sunny week day to visit the park. It was not crowded and surprisingly beautiful.
The event in 2016 was held from May 27 to Jun 12 but the “tentative” dates were never updated before May 28. 2016年的玫瑰花節於5月27日至6月12日舉行。但我在5月28日出發到韓國前仍沒有最新花節日期。The theme this year is the Little Prince’s Roses. The themed backdrop welcomes you at the entrance. 今年玫瑰花節的主題是「小王子的玫瑰」，主題公園門口就有小王子歡迎你。This is “the rose” of the Little Prince, protected by a glass capsule. 這是小王子的「玫瑰」，他在離開他的星球前把「她」用玻璃瓶保護著。The rose garden is truly colorful with roses in full blossom. There is a water fountain on the left of the entrance. 走進玫瑰園就會看到色彩繽紛的玫瑰花，園內有噴水池，環境優美！There are photo spots every where with wooden garden chair. Thoughtful! 到處都有拍照景點，還有木椅安排，真細心。Rose arches are built on the walking path, creating a great atmosphere. 玫瑰園內的步道有木籬笆拱門和攀藤玫瑰，是遊人必經之路。There are a few statues in the garden, creating a European feel. 花園內有幾座人像石雕，把首爾大公園的玫瑰園打造成歐洲玫瑰園的風格。The only 3D backdrop set of Little Prince in the Rose Garden. There are some performances and programs during the Rose Festival. 玫瑰園內唯一的立體「小王子」造型，其他是平面的背景版。玫瑰花節期間園內有表演節目和活動。The Rose Garden covers an area of close to 42,000 square meters. You may easily spend half a day there. 玫瑰園的面積達42,000 平方米，邊賞花邊拍照，隨時可以花上半天。There’s a windmill in the Rose Garden. I think it’s for decoration purpose. I didn’t take a close look though. 玫瑰園內的風車，應該只是裝飾，但我沒有走近看。It’s not crowded at all during the week days. 週日來到，漂亮的拍照位都沒有人跟你爭。其實到處都是很美！This Rose Garden in Seoul Grand Park is more than 3 times the size of the one in Olympic Park. There are a lot of flower beds and the landscape is more interesting. 首爾大公園的玫瑰面積比奧林匹克公園的玫瑰園大3倍，當然玫瑰花多很多，而且庭園設計也較好。There were a few painting ladies who all geared up with long sleeves, hats and big umbrellas. Very well protected from the sun. 除了攝影愛好者外，園內有幾位寫生的女仕，都是全幅武裝：長袖衣服、戴帽、太陽傘，很專業。There are other flowers and trees in the Themed Garden. 玫瑰園主題公園內有其他花草樹木，找個襯顏色的地方拍照不難。There is an entrance fee of KRW 2,000 to the Rose Garden. 玫瑰花園入場費 2,000 韓元，約港幣14元。Transportation: Seoul subway line 4, Seoul Grand Park station. Then you will see this path that leads you to the main area. Be prepared for a good 20 to 30 minutes walk to Rose Garden. You may take the shuttle or sky chair in the park. 交通：首爾地鐵4號線「首爾大公園」站出。原著這條樹蔭道到公園正門。徒步到玫瑰園需時約 20-30分鐘，也可以乘坐園內空中吊椅 (sky chair) 和穿梭巴士。The sky chair is an interesting means of transportation in Seoul Grand Park. It connects the main gates of Themed Park and the Zoo. And you may buy one way, two ways or day pass. 這是空中吊椅，可聯絡首爾大公園內主要的主題公園和動物園入口，可以買單程、雙程或日票，看起來很好玩。The walking map from Subway exit 2 to Rose Garden of Seoul Grand Park. 從首爾大公園地鐵站出口步行至玫瑰園地圖。
