Top 100 cherry blossom spots in Iwate and the "Three Great Cherry Blossom Spots of Michinoku"

Day 6 of my cherry blossom trip. After visiting Sendai and Yamagata, I headed north. Kitakami Tenshochi Park was a perfect location along Shinkansen and only 20 minutes walk from the station.

The approximately 2km of cherry trees along Kitakami river is one of the "Top 100 cherry blossom spots" and the "Three great cherry blossom of Michinoku" in Japan. There are 10,000 cherry trees and many other flowers in the park. There are some daffodil and jonquil at the beginning of the park, adding color to the white-pink cherry blossom.

The walk through the  cherry blossom tunnel was very pleasant. The weather was perfect for a long walk in the shade of cherry trees. It didn’t feel crowded because most people keep walking. And there were some horse and carriage rides passed by every now and then. It’s nice!

Location: 10 Chiwari Tachibana, Kitakami-shi, Iwate-ken

Access: JR Kitakami Station exit A. Walk 20 minutes.
