Flying to Sendai from Hong Kong to early in the morning allowed me to have almost the whole afternoon to walk around. It's a sunny day when I arrive. So I dropped off my bag at the hotel (I couldn't checkin until after 3pm anyway) and headed off to my first cherry blossom viewing destination: Tsutsujigaoka Park.
I followed the transport information which was to take JR Senseki Line to Tsutsujigaoka station, then walk 2 minutes. JR Senseki Line is the railway that also goes to the famous tourist attraction Matsushima (Matsushimakaigan Station). The train ride from Sendai station was only 1 minute! Which means that I could have walked there. Well, it was my first visit in North East Japan so I just follow the information. Why didn't anyone say that?
The park is easy to find. There is no gate. Cherry trees were right at the entrance. Happy! This city park is easy to walk around without a map. Simply follow the main path or the traffic, you will reach the main cherry trees area. There are 350 cherry trees planted in the park, making it the most easily accessible flower viewing spot in Sendai city center. It was a sunny day. The park was busy with many kids, students who finished schools, tourists, and some people who seemed to have taken time off to enjoy the wonderful afternoon in the park.
This first visit at the best time of the year on a sunny day was perfect! After taken more photos near the entrance where there weren't many people, I walked back to Sendai station. Sure enough, it took less than 15 minutes.
