Buddha Dordema 不丹釋迦牟尼佛

Sitting atop a hill overlooking south of Thimphu in Bhutan, this 52 meters tall Buddha statue is one of the largest in the world. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold. 125,000 small buddha statues also gilded in gold were placed inside the big Buddha. It is spectacular and very shiny!

The construction of Buddha Dordenma began in 2006 and concluded in September 2015. The construction of the main entrance is still ongoing as you can see in this photo.
這座釋迦牟尼佛自2006年開始興建，2015年竣工，丹正面入口還在建設中。

You may drive all the way up to the Buddha instead of hiking from the bottom.
如果不想爬山，可以乘車到最高位，在側門入。

I felt so lucky to be there on 5th November 2016, attending the first world peace prayer event held by the chief monk even though I am not a buddhist.
我不是佛教徒，但也感到相當幸運，能在大佛舉行的第一次不丹的佛教領袖為世界和平而誦經。

It was crowded with lots of locals as well as some tourists. The statue was cordoned off. Hundreds of monks sat in the canopies facing the big Buddha to pray.
來參加慶典的人很多，有遊客，但大部份是當地人。有幾百位僧侶面對大佛誦經，大佛周邊和僧侶前面大片地方都被圍欄隔開，民眾不能走近。

Many people were sitting under the canopies to listen to the pray.
參加的民眾都聚集在帳篷下聽經。
