If you are visiting Kumano area for the UNESCO world heritage sacred sites and pilgrimage route, don’t miss the chance to experience the Kawayu Onsen which is an outdoor bath in Oto River, a natural hot spring wonder. It is only 10 minutes by car or bus from the sacred site Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine.
Otor River is a tributary of Kumano River, featuring natural crystal clear warm water. One side of the river is a forest mountain and the other side fills with hotels, traditional Ryokan inns and some family run Minshuku guest houses.
Many of the accommodations offer guests room facing the river and are walkable distance to the Kawayu Onsen which is a pool dug manually for people to soak in.
You may go for day trip if you are driving or stay in one of the accommodations to spend more time to enjoy this natural wonder. Wakayu Midoriya is one of the larger hotel in the area with both Japanese and western style guest rooms. The cool things about this hotel is that it has its own tubs (holes) at the back of the hotel and the permanent mountain view.
I have never seen any hotels own a lush mountain and river view. Amazing!

酒店的日式房間有單人、雙人和有私人風呂的套房。
如果想睡一般西式的床也有，但房間都是要除鞋的。
酒店有4人房，方便一大家小住宿。
餐廳提供的早餐和晚餐都是自助餐形式。
自助餐不算是很豐富，但有足夠的選擇和份量，食材新鮮。
酒店大堂有手信商店，出售各種地道產品及紀念品。
室內溫泉。
室內溫泉外面就是兩個酒店自家製的天然川湯溫泉，面對茂盛的樹林山景和流水，還有得遮蔭，這樣嘆天然溫泉真寫意。這範圍是男女共浴的，酒店還有浴袍提供，很周到。
假如你想體驗著名的川湯溫泉，在酒店外步行幾分鐘就到。
大塔川的河床很淺，所以有部挖泥機在旁邊，遇大雨水淹時可以把河床挖深。
川湯溫泉在河流的另一邊，走過橋後才可看見。
這就是川湯溫泉。有些日本男士會裸浴，有些會包毛巾，有些穿泳衣，沒有一定的規矩。
這更衣室在馬路邊，其實只有門口的竹簾擋住，男女更衣室基本上是一牆相隔，沒有門或儲物櫃。
